Aurukun Bauxite Development

Who are we?

Aurukun Bauxite Development Pty Ltd (ABD) is a specific purpose company that has entered into a joint venture and Indigenous Land Use Agreement with Ngan Aak-Kunch RNTBC (NAK), acting as agent for Aurukun Native Title Holders.

What do we do?

The joint venture has been formed to carry out all studies required for the mining and processing of bauxite resources from within RA315, and will appoint a management company to operate the mine itself. The design capacity is currently 6.6 mtpa export of beneficiated bauxite.

Why?

The Indigenous Community of Aurukun has been ranked as one of the most disadvantaged in Australia. Despite this, Native Title Holders have been aware for decades that their land contains a world-class bauxite deposit that will be key to their empowerment, economic independence and jobs.
